Starting at the Sonnenbichl parking lot, this hike begins with a gentle incline, following a peaceful stream deeper into the valley. But don’t let the easy start fool you—around 1,000 meters of elevation gain, the trail becomes narrower and much steeper. And by steeper, I mean seriously steep!
After a short but challenging climb toward the Buchetskogel, the charming Aueralm comes into view, offering a well-deserved reward for your efforts.
For those looking to extend the adventure, you can tackle the Fockenstein summit. However, if snow is on the ground, snowshoes are a must for this side trip—otherwise, it might turn into a frustrating slog.
We opted for a cozy break at the Aueralm instead, enjoying the alpine vibes before heading back. Pro tip: on sunny days, this trail can get busy, so it’s best to start early.
The descent is a real highlight! The route doubles as a perfect sledding track, so bring a toboggan if you can.
