Despite the forecast calling for mixed weather, we couldn’t resist the pull of the mountains. With Fockenstein as our ultimate goal, we had a great backup plan—stopping at the Aueralm for a cozy break if the weather turned on us.
This is one of the most popular routes in the Tegernsee Valley, and for good reason. The hike starts on gentle forest roads, gradually giving way to more scenic trails. Once you pass the Aueralm, the adventure truly begins, turning into a proper mountain hike up to Fockenstein.
The summit rewards you with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama that makes the climb well worth it. After soaking in the views, the descent brings you back to the Aueralm, where you can relax and recharge.
We did get caught in a quick rain shower, but it didn’t dampen the experience. On sunny days, the Aueralm’s terrace is the perfect spot to enjoy stunning vistas before heading back down.
Whether you’re aiming for Fockenstein’s peak or just looking for a relaxing day hike with great views, this trail is a must-try in the Tegernsee region!
